Small crochet butterfly
I use appliqués quite often for my crochet projects. The most recent appliqué I made was the butterfly
Here’s how it’s made.
Abbreviations, UK terms (US terms)
MR - magic ring
ch - chain
dtr - double treble crochet (tr)
ttr - triple treble crochet (dtr)
Slst - slip stitch
Start with MR.
Into MR work the following:
[Ch6, slst into second chain from hook, 1ttr, 3dtr, 3ch, slst] into MR.
![]() |
| Ch6, slst into second chain from hook |
![]() |
| First forewing completed |
![]() |
| Hindwing is completed |
Work [Ch3, dtr, ttr, dtr, ch3, slst into MR] again to make the second hind wing.
[Ch3, 3dtr, 1ttr, ch2 and slst into the second chain from hook (to create a picot), ch4, slst] into MR.
You can tie the yarn strands to create antennae.
And she’s ready to fly!
