Let's dive into the materials and stitches you'll need to bring this kitty to life

Abbreviations, UK terms
ch - chain
dc - single crochet
dc2tog - 2dc crochet together 
slst - slip stitch 
MR - magic ring
FO - fasten off

Materials used:
  • Black Super chunky chenille yarn (300g/150m); approximately 2 balls. 
  • Small amounts of Aran/Worsted yarn in Grey or Dark purple (for cat paws details)
  • Hook 7mm (for Super Chunky)
  • Hook 4.5mm (for Aran)
  • Cushion stuffing 
  • Tapestry needle 
The cushion is approx. 30cm in diameter when finished

Body of the cushion:

(make 2 round pieces)

Round 1: 8dc into mr (8)
Round 2: 2dc into each st (16)
Round 3: *1dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times (24)
Round 4: *2dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times (32)
Round 5: *3dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times (40)
Round 6: *4dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times (48)
Round 7: 3dc, 2dc into next, *5dc, 2dc into next* repeat 7 times, 2dc (56)
Round 8: *6dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times(64)
Round 9: *7dc, 2dc into next* repeat 8 times (72)

FO the first piece. Do not FO the second one if choosing the flat slip stitch joining.
Sew the two pieces together, or join them using the flat slip stitch join. Add stuffing before completely closing the seam. 

Cat paw:

Special stitch for a Cat paw:
Bbl - bobble stitch. Yo and insert the hook into the stitch indicated, yo and pull through the first two loops on the hook (2 loops remaining on the hook); yo and insert the hook into same stitch, yo and pull through two loops (3 loops remaining on the hook), yo and insert the hook into same stitch, yo and pull through two loops (4 loops); yo and pull through all 4 loops on the hook. Your bobble is complete. 

In super chunky yarn

Round 1: 6dc into mr (6)
Round 2: 2dc into each st (12)
Round 3: *1dc, 2dc into next* repeat 6 times (18)
Round 4: *1dc, 1bbl into next* repeat 3 times, 12dc (18)
Round 5: dc into each st (18)
Round 6: *1dc, dc2tog* repeat 6 times (12). 
Stuff lightly, don’t close the opening. 
FO leaving a long tail for sewing. 

Cat tail:

In super chunky yarn. Stuff lightly as you go.

Round 1: 5dc into MR (5)
Round 2: 2dc into each st (10)
Rounds 3-18: dc into each (10)
Round 19: dc2tog 5 times (5)
Close the opening using the front loops of the last round, FO, leaving a very long tail for sewing. 

You can make the tail shorter or longer, reducing or increasing the number or rounds. Once you’re happy with the length of the tail, follow the instructions for R19. 

Cat paw details:

Work in Aran yarn(and a suitable hook)

Toes: (make 3 for each paw)
Round 1: MR, 6dc into MR, slst into first dc. FO leaving a tail for sewing. (6)

Paw pad: (make 1 for each paw)

Round 2: 2dc into each st (12)
FO leaving a tail for sewing. 

Assemble the cat cushion:

Sew the paws details onto the paws. 
Use pictures for the reference where to attach the paws details, the paws and the tail. 
Sew the paws to the body of the cushion. Sew the tail to the body of the cushion. I advise you to bend the tail a bit while sewing it on. 

Tip: You will need to stitch the *side* of the tail directly to the pillow, working *around* the edge of the tail, until you reach the point where the tail starts to stick out of the pillow. Start stitching the underside of the tail to the pillow body, then continue to stitch the edge to the pillow body. 
The paws are sewn on in a regular way. Sew along the open edge of the paw, securing it to the pillow’s body.
