Mini Bird applique crochet pattern
Today on the blog, I’m adding a new free pattern to our collection: a Mini Bird Applique.
I designed this pattern to be clear, easy to follow, and perfect for beginners.
It all started when I needed a cute, small design for some handmade hair clips, and this little bird was born!
For the hair clips I used cotton DK weight yarn and a 3mm hook.
I’ve written it as a one-colour project for a sleek finish, but I’ve also provided clear instructions for those of you who want to make a specific Robin variation.
This applique is a fantastic way to use up small amounts of yarn, and I think you’ll find it incredibly addictive to make.
Happy crocheting!
R1: ch3, 11tr, slst to join into the top of ch3
R2: slst, [slst, ch2, htr, 3tr, htr], skip next, slst, [2dc] into each of the next 6 sts, ch4, starting from 2nd ch from hook, dc, 2htr, slst into next st.
Beak: join yarn to the hast htr of the bird’s head made in R2, ch2 and slst back into same htr.
If you’re making a Robin applique
Brown sts are in Black plain font, Red sts are highlighted in Red.
Work MR and R1 in Brown.
Then for R2 work the following:
R2: slst, [slst, ch2, htr, 3tr, htr], skip next, slst, [2dc] into each of the next 2sts, [2dc] into each of the next 4sts, ch4, starting from 2nd ch from hook, dc, 2htr, slst into next st.
